Create Art from the Earth: Foraged Pigments & Japanese Woodblock Printing

Join our peer worker James and volunteer Jade for a unique, hands-on course that blends creativity, nature, and tradition. Over the course, you’ll forage natural materials from the local landscape; rock, earth, and plants, and transform them into your very own handmade paint palette.

You’ll discover the fascinating process of turning raw earth and plant material into vibrant dyes and pigments, learning the science behind each step. Then, using your custom palette, you’ll bring your creations to life through the timeless technique of Japanese woodblock printing.

Whether you’re an artist, a nature enthusiast, or simply curious to try something new, this immersive experience offers a rare opportunity to connect deeply with the land, explore ancient craft, and express yourself through truly original artwork.

Please note:

·        The first session of this course will involve walking outdoors, as a group and at a leisurely pace, to collect materials for processing into pigments.

·        This walk will go ahead no matter what the weather, so you will need to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

·         The next 5 sessions will be held indoors at Mirfield Community Centre.

·        Further information about this first session will be sent before the course starts. You will be required to complete an exercising safely form prior to the walk, this it so that we can ensure that you can complete the walk safely.

If you have any mobility difficulties, or concerns about doing the walk please let us know and we will discuss these with you.
