Life skills and interests
Come and join Ali on this brand new course and be part of something bigger – in a way that feels right for you.
This six-week creative wellbeing course invites you to explore mindful hand stitching while connecting to the WOVEN in Kirklees Calico Dress project — a collaborative artwork celebrating Kirklees, the College, and the positive messages we want to share about wellbeing and mental health in our community. Stitching can be calming and grounding, helping us slow down and build confidence in a relaxed, supportive space.
Our friendly Peer Worker, Ali, will guide you through simple, meditative embroidery techniques, introducing 6–7 basic hand stitches using recycled and upcycled fabrics. You’ll experiment with colour, texture, fabrics, buttons, and more, with a focus on process over perfection.
As the weeks progress, you’ll be encouraged to create embroidered patches inspired by your own stories and experiences related to Kirklees and the College. If you choose you can contribute your work to the shared Kirklees Calico Dress project. Taking part in this shared artwork is always optional.
All materials are provided. All levels of experience are welcome from beginners to highly skilled.
For Project Colt venue: Please note, this venue is in a converted mill, the building is in the process of being improved so that it is more accessible.
