Life skills and interests
Join Creative Practitioner Jess and friendly volunteer Russel, for one or more of our brand new, relaxed and supportive photography journeys. These sessions will focus on generating a sense of wellbeing by tuning in to what’s around us during gentle, accessible outdoor exploration, including a chance to try out some simple photography using your phone, or a camera if you prefer. Each session will take place in a local park in Kirklees and will focus on creativity and enjoyment – no fitness expectations, no pressure to produce the perfect snap, just creativity, curiosity, and learning together.
We will explore taking photographs at our own pace, before learning simple ways to look at and lightly edit images in an optional additional session taking place on 8th October at Mirfield Community Centre (please see separate listing for this on our courses page). No previous experience is needed, and all sessions are gentle, friendly and supportive. The walking on each route is gentle with breaks, and we hope should be suitable for most, however please contact us before booking if you have mobility difficulties.
- Greenhead Park session – Our walk will include some gentle slopes. There are toilets available on site. There is a café however we cannot guarantee it will be open on the day so please bring your own drink.
- Ravensleigh Resource Centre session – Our walk will take us to Crow Nest Park and include gentle inclines and declines. There are toilets at the meeting point, and also at Crow Nest Park. There will not be anywhere to buy refreshments so please bring your own drink.
- Mirfield Community Centre session – This route includes some quite steep inclines and declines on our way to Knowl Park, the park itself is flat. We will take slopes at a slow pace with breaks as needed. There are toilets and refreshments available at the start/end point.
Please be mindful of weather conditions and wear appropriate footwear as ground may be muddy or slippery. Please bring a drink, and bring a raincoat if it’s raining, or sunscreen and a hat if it is sunny.
You will be required to complete an exercising safely form prior to the session, this it so that we can ensure that you can complete the walking element of the session safely.
