Contrast Carving: Modern Patterned Wall Art

Project Colt, Elland, Halifax, Bridgefield Mills, Elland Bridge, Elland, Halifax HX5 0SQ

Life skills and interests

Discover a calming and creative approach to woodwork in this brand new 2026 course. You’ll learn how to design bold, rhythmic patterns, carve them into a flat wooden board, and then cut your piece into a striking shape. Using a rolled black-paint technique, the raised areas of your design become deep black while the carved lines reveal the natural wood beneath, creating a strong, modern contrast.

This course offers a welcoming space to slow down, focus, and express yourself through hands-on making. Our Peer Support Worker James will blend gentle guidance whilst giving you the chance to develop confidence, learn new skills, and connect with others. No previous carving experience is needed; just come as you are and enjoy the process of turning a simple board into a unique piece of wall art.

Please note, this venue is in a converted mill, the building is in the process of being improved so that it is more accessible. In the meantime, if you struggle to climb stairs please get in touch as soon as you can and we will endeavour to put adjustments in place. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and we thank you for your patience. If you would like any further information, please get in touch.
