The Golden Age of Hollywood: The Directors
Mirfield Community Centre, Water Royd Lane, Mirfield, WF14 9SG

Life skills and interests
Join us as we head back in time to the early 20th Century and learn about the Golden Age of Hollywood! On this popular four-week course, delivered by Recovery College Volunteers, Russel and Jana, you will learn things you never knew about the famous directors of the bygone era of the silver screen (even if you’ve attended previous courses with us!)
You may have seen or heard of famous films such as The Maltese Falcon, Ben-Hur, or Some Like It Hot, but do you know who the directors were? They were some interesting characters! John Huston who directed The Maltese Falcon had been a prize fighter, and German-born William Wyler who directed Ben-Hur got his first break into movies through a family connection. Come along and learn more intriguing insights about these and other remarkable directors! Throughout the course, we will see clips from some of the greatest comedies, westerns, dramas and adventure films ever made and learn fascinating facts about both the directors and their movies. For the final week we’ll watch a full-length movie, voted for by you!
This course is suitable for all learners, whether or not you have previously undertaken a Golden Age of Hollywood course.
