Myths, Magic & Monsters!

Join us for this ever-popular five-week course, where we delve into some of the ancient folklore of Japan – and beyond!  With the help and support of our fabulous facilitator James, and volunteer Wendy, you will be gently guided through the process of designing and carving out your own woodblock, and then printing with it to create your own unique piece of art.

During the course we will also explore the the Japanese folklore of Yōkai, which are spirits in varying forms who all serve a different purpose. We will create our very own spirit, with its own folklore. How about one that helps with your washing up when you don’t have the energy? Or a little dude who notices when you are stressed and gives you a shoulder massage whilst gently humming a soothing tune? An omnipotent keychain, that can fly to the door to check that you locked it? The possibilities could be endless! The end result will be a print of your very own Yōkai or spirit, with its own back story.

Previous experience of wood or lino printing is advisable and a willingness to create your own design.
