Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Keeping Connected, your Recovery & Wellbeing College newsletter!
We’re so excited to share what’s coming up, including details of our upcoming celebration event — we hope you can join us! You’ll also find a round-up of local activities to help you stay entertained, and connected throughout the summer. Be sure to check out learner, Paul’s uplifting story about stepping out of his comfort zone — you won’t want to miss it! Kirsty, our new Trainee Clinical Psychologist, shares some thoughtful tips on building resilience. And as always our Let’s Get Physical feature is there to help you find joyful ways to move more. There’s plenty more inside too, so dive in and enjoy!

Celebrate 10 years of Recovery & Wellbeing College
Empower & Inspire – 8th September – Mirfield Community Centre
Would you like to unlock your own potential while supporting and guiding others? Do you have experiences to share which could help somebody else? If so, you could make a great peer mentor. Please be aware that due to funding from Kirklees Success Centre, priority will be given to learners living in Kirklees and learners must be aged 19+ Also, you will be required to complete Kirklees Success Centre’s own enrolment forms at the start of this course.
Mindful Doodles – 10th September – 6 weeks – online
Taking some time out to focus on a mindful and creative activity can really help enhance our sense of wellbeing. So come and join us for this six-week online course. No previous drawing experience is required for this relaxing course, which will be facilitated by our wonderful Creative Practitioner, Sara Rose.
Paper Weaving – 8th September – 4 weeks- Project Colt
Join us for a fun and relaxing 4-week course where you’ll discover the creative world of paper weaving using recycled materials and mixed media. Whether you’re completely new to crafting or already love getting creative, this course is open to everyone—no experience needed! Inspired by the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’—Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Give—we’ll explore colour, texture, and pattern in a calm, welcoming space.

Growing Works – August sessions
Sprout at Oakwell Hall Country Park, Birstall
Join us for fun, nature-based activities for families with children aged 12 and under with SEND/SEMH, plus their siblings. Sessions run every Wednesday and Friday, 6–29 August, 10am–2pm. Lunch included. Booking essential.
Mindful Crafts Wakefield Road Allotments, Dalton

Sprout at Crow Nest Park Adventure Playground
A welcoming Saturday morning group for children with additional needs (12 and under) and their families. Enjoy outdoor play, connection, and shared experiences in an inclusive space. Booking essential.
Bud – Adult Volunteering at Wakefield Road Allotments, Dalton
Get involved in therapeutic gardening every Tuesday and Thursday, 10am–1pm. A calm, friendly space with accessible paths and covered areas—perfect for all abilities and interests.
Dalton Community Gardens – Open Sessions
Everyone is welcome on Monday afternoons, 1–3pm, at the garden next to Rawthorpe and Dalton Library. Help care for this beautiful urban space and support local wildlife.

The Piece Hall hosts a huge array of events, from contemporary music concerts, to impressive site-specific performances, circus spectacle and street theatre.
