Weekly Update

College News

April 11, 2024

Welcome to our weekly update. Thank you to all those who attended the Pastures New event on Tuesday and wrote their thoughts and feelings on our memories board! Here is a selection of what people wrote:

“Grateful for saving my life”
“Safe place with understanding and kind people”
“Friendships made. Thank you to all of you”
“Learning to laugh again”
“Always feel welcome. Leave better than when I arrived.”
“Not on your own”

We left a little bit of a surprise in taking participants up the road to visit Mirfield Community Centre – where we received a warm welcome and some tea and cake!

We began our first course at Mirfield Community Centre this week! Which will be the first of many as we move out of Pathways over the next couple of weeks.

Please don’t forget we are not closing but growing, offering more courses in more venues, across Calderdale and Kirklees over the next year. Please keep looking at the current timetable to find a venue near you.

Centre for Mental Health research into voting

If you have experience of a mental health problem, the Centre for Mental Health wants to hear from you about voting. They’re undertaking research into the barriers that people with mental health problems might face in exercising their right to vote. By sharing your experience, you’ll be helping to promote voting rights for all.

They’re especially keen to hear perspectives from people living in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Please share this research call with your networks to help reach more people.

How to get involved

Complete a questionnaire

This should take you only three minutes to fill out. It will help us better understand the barriers to voter registration for people with mental health problems. There will be a prize draw for a high street voucher for £100.
