In this week’s update

A big welcome to our final half term of the academic year — we can’t quite believe how quickly it’s come around! This week we’ve also been celebrating Volunteers’ Week 💛, taking time to say a huge thank you to our amazing volunteers for the time, energy and care they give so generously. It’s been lovely to mark the occasion together in Mirfield and Halifax!

This week we have been celebrating our amazing volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week — a chance to say thank you and to recognise the incredible dedication, compassion and hard work they bring to the College every single day.

When you really think about it, the most valuable thing we can offer anyone is our time. It’s a precious gift — something only we can choose to give. Our volunteers give their time so generously, and in doing so, they make such a meaningful difference to others.

So, a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers for giving your time to us. We truly couldn’t do what we do without you.

We’ve also had some lovely opportunities to come together and celebrate. On Tuesday, we enjoyed a relaxed afternoon at Mirfield Community Centre, with tea, coffee and (of course!) cake. It was a great chance for people to connect, as well as get creative by making clay pots and jewellery together.

We’re also hosting another event in Calderdale at The Old Library in Halifax, bringing volunteers together again to meet, chat and celebrate everything they contribute.

A big thank you to each and every one of you — this week is for you!

In the spotlight this week:

The work of our wonderful volunteers is highlighted in Volunteer Storyboard- website highlighting work of volunteers in Calderdale at https://www.cvac.org.uk/volunteers-week-2026-storyboard/

You can read the quote about our volunteers here:

“Our volunteers are at the core of what we do at the Recovery College in Calderdale. They plan, deliver and support outstanding high-quality lessons to empower people to improve their own wellbeing. Our courses are designed to help our learners to thrive, so that they can live life well. Our volunteers, who have a lived experience of mental health difficulties, share their stories to bring hope to people who are struggling, and to ensure that the Recovery College is the best it can be. I struggle to imagine a Recovery College without our volunteers, their commitment, hard work and openness have helped us to create a welcoming college, where people feel comfortable, valued and inspired. Our volunteers are an absolute credit to the college, and I would like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for the incredible support that they continue to provide for us-they are AMAZING.”
