Katie – our new Co-ordinator for Kirklees

Featured Article:

Hello everyone, my name is Katie, and I’m delighted to be joining Calderdale and Kirklees Recovery College as the new Recovery College Coordinator.

For the past three years, I’ve worked with the recovery college in Wakefield, and I’m excited to now be part of such a dedicated team here. My journey into mental health and recovery work is shaped by both professional and personal experience. Alongside this role, I continue to work as a Peer Support Worker, bringing lived experience that helps me understand the importance of hope, connection, and feeling heard.

I believe recovery is unique to each person, and I’m passionate about creating safe, welcoming spaces where people feel supported to move forward in their own way. It’s important to me that services are inclusive, accessible, and reflective of the communities they serve, so everyone feels able to take part.

Over the years, I’ve seen people grow in confidence, build connections, and achieve goals they once thought out of reach. Being part of those journeys is a privilege. Before joining the NHS, I also worked in a variety of roles internationally, which helped me connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

In this role, I’m looking forward to building relationships with learners, volunteers, staff, and partners, while supporting the College’s continued growth and co-production. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, art, nature, and meeting new people. I’m excited to get started and be part of this community.

I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and working together to continue building a supportive and inspiring Recovery College.
