Weekly Update

Welcome to the Weekly Update
A Patchwork of Community
This week, we’ve been reflecting on what makes our College so special. Each of us—learners, volunteers, staff—brings something unique. We’re all different in our experiences, perspectives, and strengths. And yet, when we come together, something beautiful happens.
Our celebration quilt is a perfect symbol of this. Every square was created by a different person, each one telling its own story. Some were bold, some gentle, some intricate, some simple—but when stitched together, they formed a vibrant, unified whole. Just like our College.
It’s a reminder that diversity isn’t just something to be acknowledged—it’s something to be celebrated. Because when we honour our individuality and come together as a community, we create something truly extraordinary.
The quilt will be touring venues across the districts, so you’ll have plenty of chances to come and view this heartfelt creation. For dates and venues, see below (more to be added soon!)
- The Arcade Pop-Up, 25 Princess of Wales Precinct, Dewsbury – From Weds 8 October – 12 November
- Project Colt, Bridgefield Mills, Elland Bridge, Elland – From Tuesday 18 November – 8 January 2026
- Laura Mitchell Health & Wellbeing Centre, Great Albion St, Halifax – on Tuesday 13 January 2026

As always we have some courses with spaces coming up soon and lots of community offers for this half term! Do read on.
🌿 Help Us Create a Grounding Booklet!
We’re developing a Grounding Booklet here at the Recovery College; a practical, inspiring resource full of techniques to help us feel calm, connected, and present. Grounding techniques are simple tools that help bring our focus back to the here and now — especially useful when we’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected. The plan is to share this booklet with learners, use in our courses, and it may even become a digital resource for our website and YouTube channel.
Our Recovery Coach, Nicky, is leading the project, and we’d love your input! Whether it’s a tried-and-tested method or something wonderfully unique, your ideas and experiences could make this booklet truly special. If you’d like to contribute, please email your grounding strategies, reflections, or creative ideas to CKrecovery.wellbeing@swyt.nhs.uk by Wednesday 17 December. Alternatively, you can hand something in to a member of our friendly team 😊
You can also express interest in joining a small working party to help shape the booklet together – reviewing ideas, sharing feedback, and helping bring it to life. Just let us know. We’d be really thrilled to include your voice in this collaborative project!
A quick reminder: If you’re booked onto a session, please do your best to attend. If something comes up and you’re unable to make it, just give us a call in advance—this helps us manage spaces and support others who may be waiting to join.
More Exciting Courses Ahead – Book Now!
Our courses are now filling up fast — so don’t wait, check them out and book your spot! If a course you’re interested in is full, just let us know and we’ll pop you on the waiting list in case a space opens up.
