Welcome to our weekly update!
Celebrating the Extraordinary in the Ordinary
We had an absolute blast discovering our inner (S)hero during this week’s International Women’s Day workshop. As co‑facilitators, we (Laura and Karen) felt genuinely privileged to spend the day with a room full of incredible women.
Together, we explored not only the famous women found in history books, but also the everyday women whose quiet strength shapes the world around us. The mums juggling countless roles. The friends who show up even on heavy days. The colleagues who lift others with kindness, humour, and resilience. The women in our communities who keep going, keep caring, and keep trying—often without realising just how remarkable they are.
At the Recovery College, everything we do is grounded in our values: hope, opportunity, empowerment, connection, and lived experience. This workshop felt like a beautiful expression of all five.
Laura reflected:
“This course was designed to embed Recovery Values—celebrating hope for our future selves and the small steps we take toward opportunity. It was truly uplifting. I felt privileged to connect with some awesome women who’ve shown resilience through many life challenges. It was empowering.”
Karen shared:
“I was really moved by the stories of ordinary women doing extraordinary things. It reminded me how easily we overlook these women in the busyness of daily life—and how often we overlook our own worth, too. We are all far more remarkable than we realise.”
Throughout the day, we explored what matters most:
What do we value? Who helped shape us?
Nearly everyone could name at least one woman whose kindness or strength changed their path—a teacher, a sister, a neighbour, a colleague, a friend. Their impact stays with us, often without them knowing.
We ended by creating vision boards for our future selves—bright reminders of our strengths, our hopes, and the futures we’re moving toward.
One learner shared:
“I enjoyed celebrating being a woman, and it gave me the encouragement to move forward with a positive attitude.”
It was a celebration of the woman you are today—and the woman you are becoming.
Warm, hopeful, and full of possibility.
Below a selection of our collages. Enjoy!
