Yarn for Calm: A Learner’s Experience
Recovery College learner Sue has kindly shared her experience of our recent Yarn for Calm course, which took place at Project Colt in Elland, and how it has helped her to relax more and calm her mind.

In Sue’s words:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the course and have become slightly obsessed!
Having attended a few of the courses at the college, I was able to settle into the class quickly, with a lovely warm and friendly welcome from facilitator Ali—I felt ‘right at home’. I particularly enjoyed the group atmosphere, which made it a great starting point to learn a new skill and interact with new people.
I have found this course, working with yarn—which isn’t normally my thing—helped me to feel much calmer and more relaxed. I’ve started to do similar projects at home in the evenings, which is usually a time I find it difficult to just sit and relax, as various things run through my mind and increase my anxiety. Doing the wool mandalas has been a lovely, tactile, soothing, and mindful activity for me, and it has had a positive impact on my mental health and overall wellbeing.
I would definitely recommend this course and encourage anyone, no matter their level of experience, to give it a go. Yarn for Calm… does exactly what it says on the tin!”
Sue’s experience highlights how creative, mindful activities can support relaxation, build confidence, and positively impact wellbeing.
We’d like to say a big thank you to Sue for sharing her experience.
