Welcome to our weekly update.

As Matt reflects on another successful year for the Recovery & Wellbeing College in his article below, we are already looking forward to the opportunities the new academic year will bring.

Over the summer, places remain available on our popular Plot to Plate course, offering a chance to learn, connect and enjoy time outdoors. We also have spaces available on a range of September courses, making this a great time to plan your next step in learning and wellbeing. In addition, you’ll find links below to a variety of activities, events and support from community organisations across the area. We encourage you to explore what’s available and make the most of the opportunities on offer over the summer and beyond.

End of Another Successful Academic Year

Matt, Principal of our Recovery & Wellbeing College, reflects on the past academic year and looks ahead to the opportunities and possibilities that the next one may bring.

As we reach the end of another academic year, I am delighted to reflect on what has been the most successful year in the history of our College. We have delivered more courses than ever before, welcomed more learners (over 1600 currently enrolled), and seen record levels of enrolment and attendance.

What makes me most proud, however, is not the numbers. It is the positive feedback we receive from learners, volunteers and facilitators. It is seeing friendships form, confidence grow, and hope emerge as people come together to share experiences and discover new ways to stay well.

Behind the scenes, the College can sometimes feel like a giant jigsaw puzzle, with many moving parts that need to come together to create a positive learning experience. There are always challenges, but the commitment and dedication of our team make an enormous difference. Having worked in mental health services for 26 years, I can honestly say I have never worked alongside a team so passionate and committed, not only about what we do, but how we do it.

Our values continue to guide everything we do: inclusivity, valuing lived experience, shared learning, and a belief that lives can be changed for the better. We believe that, despite life’s challenges, every person has value, strengths and the potential to move forward with hope.

As we pause for the summer, I would like to thank everyone who has been part of the College this year: learners, volunteers, facilitators, partners and colleagues. Everything we have achieved has been possible because of your commitment, courage and kindness.

Before we begin a new academic year, I wonder if you might take a moment to reflect. If you could go back to the start of your journey with us and speak to the person you were then, what would you tell yourself?

Perhaps the answer says something about how far you have travelled. As one chapter closes and another begins, I wonder what gifts next year will bring.
