Emotional Balance: Building Hope, Resilience and Recovery

September marks National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate the strength, determination and achievements of people recovering from substance use and mental health challenges. It is also an opportunity to recognise that recovery is possible and that hope, connection and learning can support us through life’s challenges.

These themes are at the heart of our Emotional Balance workshops, which help people better understand their emotions, develop self-awareness and build practical strategies to support wellbeing.

Emotions are a natural part of being human, but at times they can feel overwhelming. When we are emotionally balanced, we are better able to pause, think clearly and choose how to respond. During more difficult moments, it can feel as though all the traffic lights are flashing at once, making it harder to think clearly and affecting our confidence, relationships and wellbeing.

Through workshops such as Dealing with Rumination and Food and Mood, learners explore emotional responses in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment. Together, we share experiences, learn from one another and discover practical tools that can strengthen resilience and support recovery.

One learner described the workshops as:

“Well presented, informative, with lived experience shared by staff and peers. Really helpful and gave a new insight into our daily lives and decision making.”

Another shared:

“Good to talk to people who are in a similar position as me regarding this subject. Made me feel like I can be more kind to myself.”

Places are available on the next online Emotional Balance workshop series starting on Wednesday 9 September.
