Welcome to the Weekly Update.

This Week at the Recovery & Wellbeing College 🌿🎨🎶

As the season shifts, we’re offering a fresh mix of courses to help you take practical steps toward living well, reconnecting with creativity, and building new skills in good company. Whether you’re ready to take back control with A Plan for Living Well, curious to explore printmaking or paper crafts, or keen to collaborate through music in our Song Writing course — there’s something here to spark your interest.

Each course is designed to be welcoming, hands-on, and a great way to keep moving forward on your wellbeing journey. Read on to find out more and see what’s coming up near you.

We love highlighting opportunities from other organisations that might support your wellbeing journey — there’s so much happening across our wider community. Take a look below to see what else is going on!

A Plan for Living Well Information session

Tuesday 30 September  – Arcade Pop-Up Dewsbury – 2pm – 3.30pm
Tuesday 21 October  – Project Colt Halifax – 1.30pm-3.00pm

Join us for this information session and discover more about A Plan for Living Well  A potentially life changing course that will help us to create our own wellness plan and get back into the driving seat of our lives! Please note that learners must have completed at least two previous courses or workshops with us and attend this introductory session to participate in the full course- it’s a great way to make sure the course is the right fit for you at this time.

Print, Play, and Produce: A Creative Taster

Wednesday 1 October 2025  Project Colt, Elland, Halifax  Bridgefield Mills, Elland Bridge, Elland, Halifax HX5 0SQ  11.00am – 2.00pm – 6 weeks

Unleash your creativity in this hands-on taster course, led by our friendly Peer Worker, James, designed for beginners or anyone looking for a gentle refresher. Across six relaxed sessions, you’ll explore three types of printing, including Gel Printing and Lino, giving you a taste of each technique, with the option to explore them in more depth if you wish. No previous experience or special equipment is required- just bring your curiosity, and we’ll provide everything you need.

The Delights of Decopatch

Thursday 9th October – Howlands Centre, Dewsbury, School Street, Dewsbury, WF13 1LD – 1pm – 3.30pm – 3 weeks
Wednesday 19th November – Project Colt, Elland, Halifax, Bridgefield Mills, Elland Bridge, Elland, Halifax HX5 0SQ – 1pm- 3pm – 3 weeks

Decopatch is a creative activity using mixed media and paper craft techniques. On this fabulous course, our amazing volunteer, Wendy will introduce you to the techniques of this wonderful craft and you’ll have the opportunity to create some fantastic items for your home or as a gift to a friend.

Due to the popularity of this course and to ensure we are being fair to everyone, priority will be given to learners who have not undertaken this course previously.

Song Writing! (in collaboration with Creative Minds)

Thursday 9 October 2025 at 1pm – 3pm – Mirfield Community Centre – 6 weeks

Are you a music lover? Would you like to meet new people and collaborate in a creative setting with others? Have you ever fancied having a go at writing your own song? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the course for you!

In this free 6-week course we will explore the basics of song writing and you will have the opportunity to create and play music in a group setting. You will also have the opportunity to record and keep a copy of your group song at the end of the course.

Please note that there will not be a session during half term on 30th October.

Mirfield Community Centre are having a charity Christmas card making session next Monday – all welcome. Drop in session between 10 am & 1 pm in room 5.

Waythrough- What’s on until Christmas

This is the latest list of workshops Waythrough are  running up until Christmas. This includes some new courses: Coping Skills, and Retention in Work. These activities are open to everyone aged 18 or over who lives in Kirklees and experiences mental health issues, problems, or concerns. You do not need to be seeing an employment advisor to join. Simply email or call the number below and ask for Karl Jackson-Lander the Peer Support Coordinator who will assist you to fill out a short referral form so you can attend.

Kirklees Armed Forces Community Information Event – Wednesday 24 September

13:30 – 15:30 pm at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, The Boardroom, Sub Basement, Acre Street, Lindley, HD3 3EA.

Just two weeks away from the Kirklees Armed Forces Community Information Event on Wednesday 24 September.

It will feature:

• Service information stalls (including Department for Work and Pensions, NHS, Veterans UK, Thrive Together North, Kirklees Wellness  Service, Kirklees Local TV, The Rural Veteran Hubs and more)
• Mini workshops and talks
• Veterans’ storytelling corner
• Mobile health checks
• Refreshments (tea, coffee, juice, biscuits)
• Free parking vouchers
• Fully accessible venue with volunteer guidance

Wellness Works – Health Hubs – Positive Mental Health & Employability Support in Mirfield & Dewsbury

Wellness Works is a Kirklees-wide programme designed to support people with health-related barriers to employment (18+). It brings together local organisations, communities, and health services to help individuals improve their wellbeing, build confidence, and move closer to volunteering, training or work, through a package of personalised support and local solutions.

Lantern parade at Crow Nest Park for World Mental Health day – Thursday 9th October

Crow Nest Park, Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury WF13 2SG, 4.00 – 7.30 pm

Come and celebrate World Mental Health day with the Working Together Better Partnership. Lantern Parade around the park
between 6.30-6.45pm. Lots of activities on the night: Nature based workshops, free vegan food, interactive stalls, make your own lantern and much much more…
Please note: Access to toilet facilities may be limited on the day
Feel free to bring your own lanterns – strictly no flying ones.

You are also welcome to attend our drop-in workshops to make your own lanterns at:
