Welcome to the Weekly Update

Welcome to this week’s Recovery & Wellbeing College update!
As we move through October, we’re feeling the rhythm of the term settle in—thank you for all the energy, creativity, and care you continue to bring to our college.

We need your help in producing resources and materials that support each of us in navigating difficult feelings and emotions. If you’d like to know more, read on below.

A quick reminder: If you’re booked onto a session, please do your best to attend. If something comes up and you’re unable to make it, just give us a call in advance—this helps us manage spaces and support others who may be waiting to join.

See below for courses with available spaces and other community offers—there’s always something new to explore, and we’d love to see you there.

🌿 Help Us Create a Grounding Booklet!

We’re developing a Grounding Booklet here at the Recovery College; a practical, inspiring resource full of techniques to help us feel calm, connected, and present. Grounding techniques are simple tools that help bring our focus back to the here and now — especially useful when we’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected. The plan is to share this booklet with learners, use in our courses, and it may even become a digital resource for our website and YouTube channel.

Our Recovery Coach, Nicky, is leading the project, and we’d love your input! Whether it’s a tried-and-tested method or something wonderfully unique, your ideas and experiences could make this booklet truly special.  If you’d like to contribute, please email your grounding strategies, reflections, or creative ideas to CKrecovery.wellbeing@swyt.nhs.uk by Wednesday 17 December. Alternatively, you can hand something in to a member of our friendly team 😊

You can also express interest in joining a small working party to help shape the booklet together – reviewing ideas, sharing feedback, and helping bring it to life. Just let us know.  We’d be really thrilled to include your voice in this collaborative project!

Come and see our Community Quilt! The quilt will be touring venues across the districts, so you’ll have plenty of chances to come and view this heartfelt creation. For dates and venues, see below (more to be added soon!)

  • The Arcade Pop-Up, 25 Princess of Wales Precinct, Dewsbury – From Weds 8 October – 12 November
  • Project Colt, Bridgefield Mills, Elland Bridge, Elland – From Tuesday 18 November – 8 January 2026
  • Laura Mitchell Health & Wellbeing Centre, Great Albion St, Halifax – on Tuesday 13 January 2026

Whether you’re a maker, a supporter, or simply curious, we’d love you to come and see this incredible artwork and see what recovery looks like in stitches!
