Weekly Update

Welcome to our weekly update
This week marks what is often called Blue Monday — a time of year when the nights are still long, the weather feels heavy, and motivation can dip. Here at the Recovery College, we’re choosing to rename it Bloom Monday: a reminder that even in the darkest parts of winter, growth is quietly taking place.
We’re also delighted to be welcoming a group of Occupational Therapists from Hong Kong mental health services, who are visiting West Yorkshire to learn more about our work. It’s a real privilege to host them and to create space for our Peer Workers, Volunteers and staff to share their stories — stories of challenge, hope, and how they have reclaimed lives of worth and value through the Recovery College. These conversations remind us that recovery is not necessarily about “getting better”, but about rediscovering — or newly discovering — a life with meaning and hope.
Read on to see our upcoming courses with spaces available, alongside a range of community offers and opportunities to get involved — and join us in marking Bloom Monday as a time for possibility, connection and gentle growth.

Amazing Affirmations
Monday 2 February 2026 – 10am – 12.30pm – Mirfield Community Centre – 1 week
We all have negative thoughts that can bring us down if we don’t challenge them. On this workshop we will discuss how positive self-talk and affirmations can be used to overcome these unhelpful thinking patterns. In this uplifting session, with the help and support of our fab Peer Workers, Laura and Ali, we will explore breathing exercises, grounding techniques and self-check ins which can all be used to help prevent anxiety from taking over. Please note, to ensure we are being fair and equitable to everyone, priority will be given to learners who have not undertaken this course previously.
My Meds, My Life
Friday 30 January 2026 – 10am – 1pm – Folly Hall, Huddersfield – 2 weeks
Mental health medication can be a lifeline — but it can also raise questions, concerns and side effects. Whether you’re currently taking medication, have done in the past, or are simply curious, this two-week course offers a welcoming and safe space to explore how medication fits into your life and recovery journey.
Woolbeing: Pom-Poms, Mandalas, & Tassels
Friday 23 January 2026 – 10am – 1pm – Folly Hall, Huddersfield – 1 week
Friday 20 March 2026 – 10am – 1pm – Mirfield Community Centre – 1 week
Join us for this creative and soothing workshop where we’ll explore the many therapeutic benefits of working with wool. With the help and support of our lovely Peer Workers, Ali and Laura, we’ll discover three delightful crafts that promote relaxation, mindfulness and self-expression. Using soft, colourful wool fibres we’ll learn how to make a beautiful mandala; a circular pattern that symbolises unity and harmony. We’ll also have the opportunity to make fluffy, tactile pom-poms.
