Welcome to our weekly update.

Welcome to this week’s update. This week we’re marking ADHD Awareness Month with a personal reflection from facilitator and former learner Paul, who shares his experience of ADHD and the impact of the Recovery & Wellbeing College on his journey. As always, you’ll find details of upcoming courses, workshops, events and community opportunities from across Calderdale and Kirklees, including our World Mental Health Day celebration at Mirfield Community Centre.

Food and Wellbeing course Thursday 8 October 2026 at 10.00am-12.30pm – Project Colt, Elland

We all have a relationship with food. For some of us, this relationship can be complicated and comes with some difficult emotions. In this one-off workshop, our Recovery Coaches Laura and Paul will guide a discussion to share your thoughts and experiences around your relationship with food. We’ll share ideas, listen to each other’s experiences, explore ways to cope, and what’s challenging. Your experiences and opinions will help shape future courses.

Hello, my name is Paul. I’m a facilitator with the Recovery & Wellbeing College and a former learner on our Living Well with ADHD course.

October is ADHD Awareness Month, an opportunity to increase understanding of ADHD, share lived experience, challenge misconceptions and highlight the support available to people, families and communities. It is also a chance to recognise the strengths, creativity and unique perspectives that many people with ADHD bring, while promoting greater understanding, inclusion and opportunity.

I was diagnosed with ADHD five years ago, and my search for support is what brought me to the Recovery & Wellbeing College. Living Well with ADHD was my first course with the College, and it was a life-changing experience. The strategies I learned and connections I made still support me through daily life.

We bring these themes together in our Living Well with ADHD course, where we explore how our ADHD brains work and build strategies to support a life of meaning and value.

Together, learners explore various aspects of ADHD, including attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. We discover techniques to manage challenges effectively and combine these into personalised strategies that can improve focus, organisation and confidence.

One learner said:

“A great course if you want to understand ADHD better. It gives helpful tools for ADHD, and being around others that have it, including staff members, makes you feel less alone and accepted.”

Another told us:

“A warm, kind and supportive course delivered by excellent facilitators. Lots to learn about ADHD and strategies to manage the problems that it can present, along with an exploration of the positive traits too. Very validating to be around others who share my experiences.”

Places are available on the next Living Well with ADHD course, starting on Thursday 5 November. We look forward to meeting you there!

Take care,

Paul
